Venditte gives A's bullpen a boost

In his first week in the MLB, Pat Venditte has pitched well in relief for the Oakland A's. Just what the team needed, a guy who can consistently throw strikes and get outs.

Switch pitcher Pat Venditte took over and, pitching left-handed, struck out Joey Gallo on three pitches to end the inning. He also worked a scoreless fifth and sixth, walking two and striking out two more — Elvis Andrus and Fielder, both pitching right-handed.
In four outings since coming up last Friday, Venditte has thrown 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He’s allowed one hit, two walks and he’s struck out four.

BOSTON — A day after his big-league debut, Pat Venditte was more willing to talk baseball than the history he made as the first full-time ambidextrous pitcher in the modern era.
“When you put all those years in, when you get this opportunity, you want to take full advantage of it, especially the first one,” Venditte said. “You want to show your coaching staff and teammates you’re up here to win, and the first impression always helps.”
