Ambidextrous Golfer-Pitcher
Bats, Drives From Either Side

Louisville, Ky. July 23 - The only ambidextrous golfer in professional baseball, Joe Deberry, pitcher for the Louisville Colonels in the American Association, whangs the pellet from any stance.
Joe is a devotee of the ancient Scottish game and he finds that by carrying two sets of clubs - a right handed one and a left handed one - he can often save a stroke or two when in a difficult position.
So Deberry's caddy does double duty while the angular hurler strides from tee to tee.
It's just as easy for me to play them from one side as the other and often easier," Deberry says in explanation of his double-barreled game. "Then too, having two sets of clubs is not like having two automobiles. It's only the initial cost and not the upkeep that counts."
In addition to his ambidexterity of the links Joe bats from either side of the plate and can throw equally well with either hands, although he has elected to become a right handed twirler. He is a switch batter, however, and has been used from time to time as a pinch hitter.
