TORONTO -- Prior to Game 3 of the ALCS Monday night, the Blue Jays claimed switch-pitcher Pat Venditte off waivers from the Athletics, the team announced. Infielder Darwin Barney was designated for assignment to clear a 40-man roster spot.
Venditte, 30, had a 4.40 ERA (93 ERA+) in 28 2/3 innings across 26 appearances for Oakland this season. It was his first taste of MLB. Venditte spent seven seasons in the minors with the Yankees before hooking on with the A's as a free agent last offseason.
The Pat Venditte interview, Nov. 7, 2017, is a great bit of oral history. It's 75 minutes on omaha.com (and it's just before going to the Dodgers). Pat always makes it a pleasure to listen to his ongoing story. This has some details not mentioned in other interviews.

Pat Venditte's favorite movie is "probably Bull Durham" according to a quote in newsOK.com July 1, 2018 (https://newsok.com/article/5599927/the-sandlot-and-bull-durham-are-top-movie-picks-among-local-baseball-players). Pat turned 33 yesterday, so that makes sense. I'm still rooting for him. Is it normal for The Show to multiply your ERA by 3? If he can get that multiplier down to 2 (that is, an ERA of 3 or so), he'd have some staying power and Baseball would be richer for it.
