One member of the Santa Cruz National Little League team has a little more on the ball than do his 14 teammates. As a matter of fact, he's got two hands on the ball. Joe Thuringer, an ambidextrous pitcher for the Cubs, earned a spot on the All-Star squad through his hurling and hitting efforts.
Thuringer compiled a respectable 6-3 won-lost pitching record this season, going 40 2/3 innings with 52 strikeouts. At the plate batting right-handed, he collected 14 base hits in 42 times at bat for a .333. Homering twice, Thuringer drove in 15 runs.
